Dr Ir Valérie Hayez is currently working as Application Engineer for the Façade Engineering & Architectural Design Team for Building and Constructions at Dow Corning, based at the company European Headquarters in Seneffe, Belgium.
Valérie’s current role includes providing technical service to the design community, including façade system manufacturers, architects and engineers. She is responsible for identifying and communicating industry needs to Dow Corning’s Research and Development Community and supporting the development and commercialization of new products.
Valérie holds an MSc and a PhD in engineering from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
New silicone reactive hotmelt for crystal clear façade applications
Glass has always been used in façades due to its transparency, which provides aesthetics and enables interaction between the indoors and outdoors, whilst facilitating occupant benefits such as daylight and energy efficiency systems. However, the bonding adhesive, weatherseal or insulating glass secondary seals are not both transparent and durable, which limits the overall transparency of a façade. Customers have repeatedly requested crystal clear durable Si linear bonding technology for this kind of application. Based upon more than 10 years of development, the latest generation of reactive hotmelt silicone technology combines both aesthetics and performance. This presentation reviews the main characteristics and improvements of this new generation material compared to the previous versions. It also demonstrates the suitability of the silicone for the targeted applications.
