The common accepted definition of sustainability is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
In the last decades Vinavil has started to improve its business to reach the quality and sustainability goals such as the removal of Substance of Very High Concern from our product formulas (APEO, Boron etc..) and the elimination/reduction of hazardous substances (like acetaldehyde, formaldehyde) as well as VOCs/SVOCs.
As a part of the EU Green Deal, chemical strategy for sustainability is a fundamental pillar dealing with research & innovation for chemicals and safe & sustainable by design criteria. Following this view Vinavil has started to run projects in collaboration with Florence University for the synthesis of monomers starting from biomass source.
For example, carbohydrates have been derivatized by trans esterification using an unsaturated reactant, to be suitable for radical polymerization. The aim of this strategy is to substitute part of the fossil backbone with renewable sources in our adhesives.
Vinavil is also involved in ‘Life Programme’, for crotonic acid enzymatic production from waste sludges via PHB.
Further, various projects for polymer waste sludges reuse are ongoing.
