Using renewable raw materials to replace fossil resources is an increasingly important topic for the A&S industry, to reduce carbon emissions significantly. However, changes in adhesive raw materials can be quite challenging: It might negatively impact the product performance and require many resources for new developments, recertifications and sometimes even new production assets.

For all adhesive producers who have set challenging goals to lower their carbon footprint, BASF has a solution that can be implemented promptly with manageable resource expenditure. Based on BASF’s biomass balance approach, BASF supports its customers in this endeavor by offering its raw materials (water-based dispersions and acrylic resins) for adhesives and sealants with significant PCF reduction (cradle-to-gate) and without changing the performance of the product.

Fossil raw materials are replaced with Biogas and Bionaphtha, coming from certified sustainable sources, at the beginning of the integrated chemical value chain. The biogenic feedstock is then allocated to a specific product (BMB product). This calculation as well as the whole setup is regularly checked and certified by an independent 3rd party.
