Many damages in the building industry are caused by water penetrating uncontrolled into the building structure. Especially indoors, a lot of water accumulates in bathrooms, showers, commercially used areas. These are also the areas where ceramic tiles and slabs are used due to their moisture resistance. Necessary waterproofing levels in conjunction with the adhesive and ceramic tile form a system that can and must be used from the bathroom to the swimming pool construction. Today, the ceramic materials have sizes up to 1.60×3.20 m. This means that the bonding must perform enormously here so that the tile holds permanently, does not form hollow layers and does not crack. The same applies to the waterproofing system, which must be able to cope with all the movements of the building and remain tight. The presentation will explain the product solutions, their development and composition.

In the past, bituminous products were often used to waterproof buildings, especially basement exteriors. These are increasingly being replaced by modern bitumen-free reactive sealants. These are mineral mortars with sealing plastic additives. They are characterized by high flexibility and ease of application. They are known as polymeric thick coatings (FPD).

The mineral component is also the basis for bonding ceramic coverings. As described, these are several meters in size and also require a highly elastic stress-compensating laying mortar.

The presentation explains the development of these highly complex mortar systems with their different properties.
