End-of-Life Debonding: an Innovative Adhesive Approach
A key component of a sustainable circular economy is the recycling of materials and the repair of products to reduce the use of natural resources, as mandated in the EU by the Green Deal, for example. The recycling of end-of-life products is a challenge for all industries, including outside the EU, and must be considered in early product design.
The combination of durability of the product over the entire product life cycle and reliable end-of-life recycling requires innovative adhesive solutions, as bonding is one of the leading standards in joining technology.
DELO’s latest innovation combines these two contradictory requirements: The debonding-on-demand adhesives can be tailored to the target application to ensure high bond strength and durability in use. The subsequent debonding takes place via a temperature-controlled mechanism by inducing the cleavage of chemical bonds in the network of polymer chains at so-called “predetermined breaking points”. This thermally induced depolymerization results in cohesive failure of the adhesive and the components can be easily separated for repair or recycling.
Join us in exploring the transformative potential of debonding-on-demand adhesives to revolutionize recycling processes and pave the way for a truly sustainable circular economy.
